Department Overview
The Vocational Skills Department of St. Teresa’s College of Education is responsible for training qualified female teachers in Vocational and Technical Education. The department focuses on equipping student teachers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to teach vocational skill courses professionally and practically in the basic schools. The programme is made up of three elective areas, namely: Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, and Family Resource Management. We offer specific courses such as Meal Management, Textile Fibres and Fabrics, Food and Culture, Introduction to Freehand Cutting, Resource Management, and Sociology of the Family, among others. Apart from the traditional courses offered in the three elective areas, we also offer courses such as Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development and TVET Education. These courses prepare student teachers to establish their own business ventures while practicing as professional teachers. Our departmental educational philosophy is: “Education and Training for Employment and Job Creation.” We are determined to train female student teachers to fit and function effectively in all fields of life while becoming the best versions of themselves. In the future, the department, together with other relevant stakeholders, will explore additional areas to help improve existing programmes in order to meet contemporary global trends. MS.
